Nepal Project Capacity Building Training Program

The Nepal Capacity Building Training Program was held by STEPI for 5 high-level and 10 senior-level managers from Nepal Government and Kathmandu University from 13th to 23rd June 2017. The Training Program took place as part of the ‘Project for Integrated Rural Development of Nepal through Strengthening Research Development Capacity of Kathmandu University Program’ that initiated from December 2016 led by STEPI-ChonBuk National University(CBNU) consortium. 

As part of the ‘Project for Integrated Rural Development of Nepal through Strengthening Research Development Capacity of Kathmandu University,’ the team from the Kathmandu University was invited to Korea to participate in the first capacity building training program of 2017 and shared visions, functions and roles of Nepal Technology Innovation Center(NTIC).

The main purpose of this training program was to provide the knowledge and experience of Korean’s Regional Innovation System and Policy that would apply the establishment of Nepal Technology Innovation Center (NTIC). Establishing the NTIC is an important component of the IRDP project because it would play a vital role in steering rural development and in being innovation platform for SMEs. Thus, strengthening the capacity of senior manager level is crucial in operating and managing the NTIC effectively.

In order to develop ideas and share know-how of Korean case for establishing of NTIC, the training program consisted of two parts: High-Level Visit and Senior Manager Level training. Two separate programs were arranged nevertheless, the main purpose is similar which is to share Korean experience on promoting regional industry and growth, via specialized institutions that offer various programs and support services to firms including technology commercialization and transfer. Through the training program, the participants were able to deepen their understanding particularly on the role of the technoparks in Korea, and they also could figure out how functions, programs and policy measures can be applied to the NTIC.
