(Tanzania) - Capacity Development Workshop (III) on ‘Developing a National Technology Roadmap for Accelerated Industrialization

STEPI organized the Capacity Development Workshop (III) on the issue of developing a national technology roadmap (NTRM), which took place from April 1st to April 5th in Seoul, Korea. This workshop was the third in a series linked to the previous two workshops which were held on August 20-24, and October 21-26, 2018 respectively.


 
The Tanzanian Delegation from Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Agriculture, Mineral Resources Institute, Tanzania Industrial Research and Development Organization, Tanzanian Commission for Science and Technology, and Export Processing Zones Authority was invited to Seoul and deepened their knowledge in technology roadmapping in order to develop a draft of the NTRM by later this year.

During the training session, STEPI research team, Dr. Hyun Yim (KISTEP) and Dr. Ki-ha Hwang (KISTEP) explained the concept of technology roadmap and methodology, shared case studies, and conducted practical training sessions. The ten participants were split into three groups, Group A chose cotton, Group B chose agriculture, and Group C chose mining as the strategic industry. Moreover, strategic products/services were prioritized by evaluating the economic impact, strategic importance and potential for success. As a result, Group A identified cloth, cotton lint, group B cashew nuts, cotton, cereals, spices, and group C gold, graphite, and iron as strategic products.
