The STEPI team visited Tunisia from April 7 (Sun.) to 13 (Sat.), 2019 for the kick-off meeting and field study. The purpose of the kick-off meeting was to discuss with the Tunisian counterparts to clarify the demand and need for the second-year project through face-to-face meetings and interviews. During the visit, a kick-off workshop was organized with the support of ANPR to invite participants who are directly working in Technology Transfer Organizations (TTOs) at research institutes and universities.

Korean experts also shared the relevant Korean experience and its implications for Tunisia. Moreover, after introducing the purpose of the project and sharing the result of the project implemented in 2018, STEPI asked the participants of the workshop to submit a checklist of what is most needed in TTOs to determine the project scope for the 2019 project. The timeline of the project was also discussed to adjust the main schedule of activities of the project. A field study involving various institutions was also included in the program.

The STEPI team visited the relevant institutions and key STI stakeholders for interviews and meetings to gather information, data, and statistics to understand the context of the Tunisian economy, industry, TTS policy development, law and policy framework, etc. On top of this, visiting the TTOs and its focal points helped increase the understanding of the Korean team and allow them to experience what is most needed for this year’s project. The team visited En National Engineering School of Tunis (ENIT) and University of Tunis El Manor (UTM) and met its relevant stakeholders as well as its students. They also had a meeting with the Korean Embassy based in Tunis and KOICA office to share the discussed activities and expected dates of activities for 2019.
