UN STI for SDGs Forum (5.14)

The Institute for Science and Technology Policy (hereinafter STEPI) held a side event of the 'UN STI for SDGs Forum' (hereinafter referred to as the STI Forum) on the theme of' “Innovation at the Nexus of Science & Technology and Society & Culture”on May 15, 2019 at 8:00 am (local time) held at the UN headquarters.

STEPI attended the 4th STI Forum held annually at the UN headquarters from May 12 to 17, 2019, and co-organized a side event with the UN Economic and Social Committee (UN ESCAP).

The TFM (Technical Facilitating Mechanism) was launched based on the result document of the Addis Ababa General Assembly in July 2015 to support the achievement of science and technology innovation through SDGs, and it operated and ran the STI Forum is operated with the affiliated organization IATT (UN Inter-Agency Task Team on STI for SDGs).

The 2019 STI Forum was held under the theme of "Science, Technology and Innovation for ensuring inclusiveness and equality", and consisted of a total of 9 sessions, mainly discussing the connection between science and business, resource preparation, and online storage of science and technology innovation.

“Innovation at the Nexus of Science & Technology and Society & Culture”, a side event jointly held with UNESCAP, was designed to understand the role of arts and humanities in promoting science and technology innovation policies, and to discuss human-centered approaches.

This annex event began with an opening remark by Hwang-hee Cho, head of the STEPI and a congratulatory remark by Se-joong Kwon, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Affairs. Then presentation and discussion follwed : ‘Linking Science and Technology and Social Culture’ by Chi-woong Song, Director of Global Innovation Strategy Research at STEPI, and 'Convergence of Art and Technology' by Dr. Leonie Bradbury, Director of Art and Creative Initiatives.

STEPI also participated in the Special Event "STI for SDGs Roadmap" and re-recognized the importance of the science and technology innovation mechanism to encompass pan-field and diverse subjects within SDGs.
