STEPI-IICC conducted the first year of the three years training program co-organized by KOICA from 16 October to 4 November 2015. 15 officials from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Agency for Promotion of Industry and Innovation visited Korea for lectures and workshops on national development strategy, STI policy designing, and to visit relevant institutions and companies to witness the development of Korea.

 

On the first day of the program, participants attended ‘OECD World Science and Technology Forum 2015’ in Daejeon City and this is meaningful time for participants because it is rare opportunity to listen of world’s greatest scholars such as Jeremy Rifkin and Aaron Ciechanover who is a Nobelist in Chemistry in 2004.

STEPI organized lectures, practices and field trip in terms of S&T policy and economic development of Korea. 10 lectures focused on national development strategy of Korea, technology roadmapping, technology transfer and regional innovation policy were helpful to understand overall S&T policy and strategy of Korea.

Field trip to Ulsan and Pohang City was an opportunity that they indirectly experience Korea’s economic development to visit Hyundai Motors, POSCO. In addition, they visited research institute and regional technology cluster such as Digital Media City (DMC) and Pangyo Techno Valley. STEPI supported establishing an action plan for S&T development of Tunisia during the program.

They also visited Jeonju as a cultural tour, the city of agricultural innovation and traditional culture (including exquisite gastronomy). The participants visited Rural Development Administration which is the central government institution responsible for extensive agricultural research and services. Afterwards, they changed into Hanbok, Korean traditional clothes, embodying Korean traditional culture and spirit to take a stroll around Jeonju Hanok Village.
