STEPAN Network to be reignited

STEPI-IICC visited three Asian countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka) from the 17th-26th of January in order to discuss about the revitalization of STEPAN* (Science and Technology Policy Asia Network) as well as potential areas to collaborate in the S&T policy field. STEPI took the initiatives to revitalize this network and appealed its passion as a potential permanent secretariat to tackle development challenges in the Asia and the pacific region for achievement of sustainable Science & technology development. UNESCO Jakarta and relevant ministries in the three countries all agreed on the importance of STEPAN and showed support of STEPI acting as a secretariat. Follow-up measures will continue through official proposals and agreements made throughout the year with UNESCO Jakarta office, Ministry of Research and Technology (RISTEK-Indonesia), International STI Center for South-South Cooperation under the Auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC- Malaysia), National Science Foundation (NSF-Sri Lanka) and many more.

*STEPAN is a registered organization approved under UNESCO in 1988 by the initiatives of Australia and Sri Lanka. Despite tremendous achievements of STEPAN for the last few decades, activities of STEPAN have been weakened due to unfortunate circumstances regarding member countries.
