On April 24th, GICS of STEPI met the delegation of HSTEC to discuss bilateral cooperation plan such as joint establishment of China’s central foothold.

Wang Peng, the chief director of an executive department in HSTEC, who led the delegation visited Shanghai center to make a cooperation plan between STEPI and HSTEC. Dr. Hwang Hee Cho, the chief director of IICC of STEPI, Dr. Sung Bum Hong, the chief director of GICS, and local managers of GICS attended the meeting.

GICS was jointly established by STEPI, SAST, and SITI on September 2014 to build a science and technology cooperation platform between Korea and China. This year, they focused on robot technology, lithium-ion battery, bio and health services. It is particularly noteworthy that GICS plays a role as a hub for industrialization of research result from bilateral industry-academic cooperation.

Unlike other developed countries’ multinational cooperation, Korea’s launching to mid-west China is insignificant. With population of 100 million and GRDP of 563.3 billion USD, Henan Province is a core region to China’s ‘Rise of Central CHINA Plan’. It is inevitable for Korean government to establish cooperation foothold in China’s mid-west region and make a new cooperation paradigm strategy to China. STEPI will expand its STI cooperation with China once Henan Province center opens as a way of globalization strategy.
