Highlights: Empowering STI governance in Chile

In March 2015, STEPI-IICC and Science Technology Information Center, Ethiopia(STIC) signed an MoU in which both parties agreed on S&T capacity building of Ethiopia. The 'Training Program for STI Policy and Information Analysis' was held in May 2015 as part of cooperation. This training program contributed in strengthening the capability of S&T information analysis and policy making in the STIC.

In connection with this, 20 researchers from STIC visited using the opportunity of KOICA's Technology and Policy (TAP) Training Program during 10-24 September 2015. The Program was organized and designed by STEPI and aimed to contribute to STIC's capacity building for annual publication of national R&D report along with analytical capacity and diffusion of the R&D results. In addition, lectures on S&T information infrastructure building and data management were delivered.

The Program was consisted of 4 modules, which are analysis of S&T policy issues, production and management of S&T information, S&T data and information analysis and operation S&T information system. The Ethiopian participants had visited KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration), Hyundai Motors, ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) along with other relevant institutions and had cultural tours to Gyeongju.

STEPI-IICC will hold similar training program annually until 2017 as a multi-year project funded by KOICA. S&T policy ideas presented in the program are expected to be developed into action plans for STIC in the context of Ethiopia and the plans would contribute to the establishment of a long-term S&T policy of Ethiopia.


Highlights: Empowering STI governance in Chile

STEPI is carrying out various projects on STI development cooperation such as consulting and training program through IICC which is in charge of international development cooperation projects on STI sector from 2014. IICC is performing consulting projects for Pakistan, El Salvador, Tanzania, Colombia and Chile as well as Ethiopia in order to meet the increasing demands from developing countries.
