Visit to Iran for Promoting Bilateral Cooperation in STI
The STEPI delegation led by Dr. Jong Guk Song, President of STEPI, paid a visit to Iran from April 30th to May 4th 2016. The main purpose of this visit was to identify the ways of cooperation in the field of science, technology and innovation with Iranian counterparts. During the visit, STEPI and IROST (Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology) signed an MOU. Furthermore, the STEPI delegation had numbers of meetings with Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT) and related organizations in order to share information regarding STI policies and strategies of its own.

On May 1st, the signing ceremony of MOU between STEPI and IROST was held in Tehran, Iran. IROST is a research center for science policy directly affiliated to the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. IROST is mainly engaged in development of strategies, policies, and R&D systems in addition to management and evaluation of scientific programs, and technology development for economic development. H. E. Dr. Fathollah Moztarzadeh, President of IROST, expressed his high hopes for cooperation with STEPI in sharing Korean STI development knowledge and experiences. Dr. Jong Guk Song, President of STEPI, said that it is best time for STI related organizations of both countries to cooperate for mutual benefits.

More than 30 officials and researchers from the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, Future Studies Research Institute, and other STI related organizations along with the Ministry of Science, Research & Technology participated in the expert meeting and discussed future cooperation between Korea and Iran in STI. The potential areas for bilateral cooperation were technology policy and management training program, joint research on nanotechnology development, technology transfer, and management of STI parks.
