2016/2017 Science Technology and Innovation Policy Project with the National Science, Technology and Technological Innovation Council of Peru
STEPI research team, headed by Dr. Wangdong Kim, visited Peru from October 24th to November 2nd 2016 for 2016/2017 Science Technology and Innovation Policy Project (STIP) with the National Science, Technology and Technological Innovation Council of Peru (CONCYTEC). The visit took place to conduct interviews and meetings with key STI stakeholders in Peru to diagnose and analyze the innovation ecosystem and existing innovation policy.

The cooperation project to develop the National Technological Innovation Program for Competitiveness (the Program) in Peru was initiated in August 2016. The STEPI will provide technical advice for the elaboration of the Program and share relevant Korean experience. The findings from the visit will provide the foundation of the Program development that can assist setting up strategic objectives and guidelines for innovation actors as well as enhancing their innovative capacity and mutual linkages to strengthen the overall innovation ecosystem. This project was developed based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the two institutions in May 2015.

The Program will be aligned with the recently announced National STI Development Policy and be part of the four special programs of CONCYTEC including technology transfer, technology surveillance and popularization of science. CONCYTEC has also launched six cross-sector priority programs in the strategic areas including BT, material science, environmental science and technology, ICT, biodiversity and basic sciences.

A capacity building workshop for key STI stakeholders will be organized in December 2016 to share relative Korean experience, methodologies for program development on key priority areas of the Program. The STEPI research team will continue to work in cooperation with the CONCYTEC’s Sub-Direction of Innovation and Technology Transfer (SDITT) for the development of the Program which is expected to be completed and announced in June 2017.
