Policy Consultation Project on the Development of the National Technology Roadmap with Tanzania
The STEPI research team visited Dar es Salaam of Tanzania from January 14th to 20th 2017 in order to conduct demand survey and pilot study for policy consultation on the development of the National Technology Roadmap with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training (MEST) of Tanzania. Prof. Johng-Ihl Lee (SUNY Korea) and Prof. Won Soon Kwon (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) joined the research team for the visit to share their expertise.

Following the 2015/16 Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) with Tanzania, the MEST of Tanzania requested STEPI to assist in developing the National Technology Roadmap of Tanzania. The visit took place according to the request and to conduct interviews and meetings with key STI stakeholders in Tanzania. A kick-off meeting was held at Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) with STI experts from relevant institutions and a subsequent lecture on technology forecasting was delivered by Prof. Lee to broaden knowledge of them.

The STEPI research team visited Tanzania Industrial Research and Development Organization (TIRDO); Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Research Organization (STIPRO); Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment (MIT); and President’s Office Planning Commission (POPC). The research team was able to examine demand and needs for the development of the National Technology Roadmap and ascertained their strong desire to achieve the national development.

The STEPI research team and the MEST agreed to co-organize a capacity building workshop within this year for the experts from the major institutions to learn and acquire an efficient approach for the effective National Technology Roadmap of Tanzania. STEPI and the MEST will continue to cooperate for the project which is expected to be accomplished by 2018.
