Visiting Researcher Program for the first half of 2017
The Visiting Researcher Program for the first half of 2017 was conducted for the maximun 3 weeks from May 10th to May 30th in Korea. The scholars who participated in the program are senior researchers at S&T government agencies from Iran(Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology, IROST), Egypt(Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, ASRT), Indonesia(Indonesian Institute of Sciences, LIPI) and Ethiopia(Ministry of Science and Technology, MoST). The program aims to promote idea exchange and knowledge sharing in the area of STI policy between researchers and institutions, as well as to enhance the institutional capacity and their individual capacity.

The Visiting Researcher Program shared S&T policy issues in various countries and provided opportunities for academic exchanges with Korean researchers. The visiting researchers experienced diverse activities during their stay in Sejong, Seoul and Daejeon. They participated in the International Symposium hosted by STEPI in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the foundation. They also broadened their ideas on STI policy with Korean experts as well as academic visitors from around world. In addition, they gave an in-depth presentation regarding the issues of S&T field in country reporting seminar.

The program provided the opportunity of research mentoring and co-researcher matching to foster the advanced research of their own topic. They conducted interviews with Korean experts in the fields of STI policy, strategic foresight, STI HRD, and STI international cooperation. They discussed main ideas, major challenges and possible solutions in their research topics with many mentors in mainly STEPI and other institutions such as KISTEP, KISTI and KAIST etc.

The visiting researchers presented their progress in STI policy research and shared their practical knowledge on STI policy issues with Korean researchers.

The program includes site visits to the government research institutes and government agencies such as ETRI, KRISS, Sejong Government Complex and Presidential Archives along with the cultural sites in Sejong, Daejeon and Seoul. It also provided the opportunity to learn Korean language.

STEPI-IICC tries to strengthen cooperation with its partner institutionss and to provide the customized program for the research capacity development of partner researchers.
