2017 Training Workshop on Key Framework for S&T Policy Development in Cambodia
The Capacity Building Workshop on S&T Policy Development of Cambodia was held by STEPI in collaboration with GS-NSTC* at Phnom Penh from 21st to 22nd June 2017. The workshop was designed to support STI capacity building for 28 senior-level officials of GS-NSTC, relevant ministries, academia and research institutions by sharing Korean experiences in STI institutional building and human resource development policy.

*GS-NSTC(General Secretariat of the National Science and Technology Council): NSTC of Cambodia is presided over by Prime Minister and by Ministry of Planning, responsible for top and final decision making in the area of science and technology policy.

The main purposes of this workshop are a) sharing STI policy experiences in Korea, and b) facilitating interactive discussions to derive implications in the context of Cambodian STI policies. The topics of the program were as follows: national STI policy formulation, S&T HRD policy and management of national R&D programs. Not only lectures but also Cambodian officials’ presentations on the current status and challenges of STI system and policy of the country were delivered.

The Secretary General of the GS-NSTC, H.E. Has Bunton stated, "Cambodia has considered S&T as an indispensable tool to maintain economic growth and to alleviate poverty. However, this is just the first step in Cambodia. Therefore, Cambodia was in urgent need of developing its national STI policy". He stressed that this workshop provided an excellent starting point for STI development.
