The Project for Integrated Rural Development of Nepal through Strengthening R&D Capacity of Kathmandu University – Field Visit for Master Plan Phase 4

Nepal Project team from STEPI, led by Dr. Deok Soon Yim, the project manager, had their the 4th visit to Nepal from September 15th to 23rd, 2017 as part of the project “Integrated Rural Development of Nepal through Strengthening R&D Capacity of Kathmandu University” (IRDP).

The purpose of the visit was to present draft of the master plan in collaboration with the Nepalese partners. Each STEPI expert in charge of operational program and governance of NTIC with the Nepalese team has drafted the master plan and thoroughly reviewed the NTIC’s role and functions. One of the main tasks of this visit was to ensure agreement of NTIC’s role and functions; 1) Conduct minimum applied and development research, 2) Test and Accreditation 3) Business support 4) Education and Training 5) Strengthening network with other institutions 6) Conduct technology trend analysis and policy research in strategic sectors.

STEPI team also conducted the extra interviews with the relevant institutions which has similar role and functions, and governance. The team visited the Research Centre for Applied Science and Technology (RECAST) in Tribhuvan University and Nepal Innovation Technology and Entrepreneurship Center (NITEC) in Pokhara Univeristy. Collecting opinions from experts and sharing their experiences was beneficial to develop the Masterplan of NTIC.
